Why? It started with this question – we wanted to understand the issues of our time. Have always been curious and wanted to understand what makes the world tick.
Large and small topics are complex, confusing and only understandable when you have a broad basic knowledge. Everything is connected to everything else and only an overview shows how. And only details create deep understanding. But: It’s teeming with individual information that everyone has to classify for themselves …
Since we couldn’t find a format that combined overview, contexts and details, we decided to develop it ourselves. No sooner said than done!
So in 2014 we began a journey to develop much more than a new format for digital publishing of big issues. In 2015 we founded Kontextlab GmbH and since 2016 we have been publishing Der Kontext. Our Magazine. There are already 13 issues online. We developed work process as well as the web publishing tool KontextMaps.
We improved the process and the tool in several steps so that finding and filtering information and making connections is quick. User guidance, design and, of course, the system itself continued to develop. And are constantly being improved now too.
That stood out! Organisations and individuals who were themselves drowning in a flood of information.
“Can we have that as well?” Yes, of course!
We can help and the knowledge maps are also available. Step by step, project by project, we listened, learned and improved the knowledge map tool.
Today, even pupils build their own knowledge maps in class. Selbständig. Besides us, partners have specialised in the new way of imparting knowledge.
We work with large organisations (including the United Nations, EU Parliament, corporations), with medium-sized companies, consulting agencies and solopreneurs. Support whenever it is a matter of sorting out the decisive information, communicating, understanding the connections.
We had a lot of support along the way. Together with customers we developed our offer and some of our ideas saw the light of day through funding programmes. We have won a few prizes and are very happy about them.
Along the way, we have remained true to ourselves: Always full of curiosity and driven by the will to create more clarity. Because those who understand make better decisions.
We are Julia Köberlein, Erich Seifert and Bernhard Scholz – the founders of Kontextlab GmbH. In our team we combine content, conception, design and software development. We specialise in conveying complex information. We develop tools and formats that offer users an experience on both a content and design level. Cross-media, multi-perspective, intuitive and interactive.
“What content is necessary to grasp complex topics and how can it be conveyed in an optimal, entertaining and high-quality way?” With this guiding question, we focus on the essentials: Best communication so readers/users can understand and decide in the best possible way.
For this purpose, we developed the KontextMaps knowledge maps and offer support in finding and structuring knowledge. A format and processes that enable immersion in a sea of information and understanding of individual pieces of information.
We develop tools, publishing formats, and support processes to make contextual knowledge visible and tangible. So that knowledge becomes productive.
Made with love in Munich.
